When you've gone to the trouble of creating a web site, wouldn't you like to know how popular it is? Many ISP's provide a counter facility that shows how many hits (visits) your site has received. If your ISP does not provide a counter facility there are lots of free counter services. One drawback with having a counter is it might show how "few" visitors your site attracts.
This is a more advanced type of hit counter service, your ISP or Web Host may provide something similar. You will be able to see detail like how many visits individual pages had, the page they were viewing before they visited your site (the referring page) and lots more.
A FavIcon is the little image that appears in the web browser address bar. It is short for FAVourites ICON as it is also displayed next to the the web site name in your Favourites or Bookmark entries. You can create yours free online.

Instead of paying for your own domain you can make your web site URL simpler and easier to remember by using a URL redirect service. Instead of giving people your old URL that might be something like: http://www.domain_name.co.uk/user_name/index.html you would be able to use something like: http://come.to/my.website or whatever else you wanted!

A guest book is a type of form that automatically displays the input of a form on a page of your web site for all your visitors to see. Your ISP may often have a guest book script on their server that will be easy to set up.
If you ISP does not provide a guest book facility there are lots of free guest book services. They just require a bit of code on your page.
To encourage people to visit your site you could join a Web Ring. When you visit a site that is a member of any Web Ring they will have a link to the next member of the ring, and so on. There are a large number of different rings each one has a theme. If your site fits the theme of a ring joining is as simple as filling in an on-screen form and adding the code to one of your web pages.
